Artist Statement

An Artist Shaping Worlds, Inside and Out

My art is a multidisciplinary journey exploring connection, self-discovery, and the wildness within. From vibrant multi-media to intricate woven textures, and nature-inspired landscapes, I create immersive experiences. Inspired by local artist James Watts to build collections, my work fits contemporary art's embrace of diverse forms. Now my path extends to interior, exhibit, and film set design. My background in theatrical and film set design provides a unique advantage, allowing me to approach interior spaces not merely as functional areas but as curated environments that tell a story and evoke specific emotions.

The Guiding Ethos: Art, Nature, and the Human Experience

My artistic and design practice is rooted in a profound philosophy: reconnecting with nature and my inner self. I believe, as Albert Einstein noted, "one cannot solve a problem in the same state one created it in," which guides my advocacy for mindfulness, presence, and a return to childlike wonder. Nature—ocean, forest, star, fire—serves as my messenger, whispering truths about who I am and what I'll become.

This philosophy imbues my art and design with a deeper purpose: to create spaces and experiences that not only delight the senses but also encourage reflection, foster well-being, and facilitate a connection to the quiet infinity that exists within each of us. I believe every artistic act can make the world a better place, urging all to create and pour it into everything you do. I see myself as a facilitator, crafting environments that promote holistic well-being and a deeper sense of belonging.

My journey, from vibrant multi-media expressions to meticulously crafted environmental designs, showcases my adaptive talent and commitment to artistic evolution. This seamless integration of diverse creative pursuits forms my cohesive artistic identity. Driven by self-discovery, nature's wisdom, and creation's transformative power, my work consistently aims to inspire, connect, and elevate the human experience. I invite all to be your now day through the beauty and intention of my work.

Artist Biography

A Symphony of Creativity and Connection

Angel Franquez stands as a dynamic multi-disciplinary artist whose expansive career seamlessly weaves together vibrant visual arts, evocative musical performances, compelling theatrical productions, and transformative interior design and exhibit design concepts. Her work transcends traditional boundaries, driven by a profound exploration of connection, self-discovery, and the inherent "wildness" of the human spirit.

Her artistic journey is a testament to a cohesive vision that moves fluidly from the expressive freedom of multi-media art to the structured yet imaginative realm of interior and exhibit design, demonstrating a continuous evolution of her creative purpose, further refined by her Master's in Education.

Franquez's artistic journey commenced with a vibrant immersion in multi-media art, characterized by an unrestrained use of color and dynamic form. Her early works, such as the abstract explosion of hues and energetic strokes, demonstrate a fearless approach to expression, capturing raw emotion and movement.

This period also saw her explore more structured, yet equally expressive, compositions. This work hints at an early fascination with texture, pattern, and the interplay of diverse materials, foreshadowing her later work with textiles and design. The contrast between her fluid, abstract expressions and these more organized, textile-like compositions reveals a versatile artistic vocabulary from the outset, capable of both free-form creativity and structured visual communication.

Beyond static canvases, she brought her art to life through live painting performances with Musicians in San Diego and Festival Community. Early exhibitions, including the "Cohn Art Show" in March 2016, featuring her “Windows to my Soul” Collection, further established her presence in the visual arts scene, marking her as an artist with a distinctive and engaging voice. Her exhibition of the “Finding Your Name” book at The Template in June 2021 further demonstrates her versatility in integrating visual art with narrative.

This evolution is powerfully exemplified by her current and upcoming projects in Interior and Exhibit Design, such as her involvement in Exhibition Design for the Cultural de la Raza's Storytelling Area, slated for February 2025. This project highlights her ability to craft narrative-driven spaces, drawing on her earlier experience as a "Playwright/Director" for the original musical ‘Finding Your Name’. Graduating June 2026 from San Diego Mesa College with an Associates in Interior Design and Gallery Exhibition Skills Certificate, she will be interning at Jason Chase Designs, creating renderings and drafting construction documents for two sphinxes from the movie, "Never Ending Story" for the Burning Man Festival 2025.
